Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Everyone Can Make a Difference. Your time and talents help families stay.

Ronald McDonald House volunteers are vital to our mission of helping families. Our volunteers must be at least 18 years old, submit to a background check, and commit to one shift every other week for a minimum of six months.

Guest Services Volunteers

Guest Service Volunteers are the heart of the House, they offer a smiling face at the front desk, ensuring families have what they need by restocking community areas, get rooms ready for a new family to stay, and take care of day-to-day needs.

Culinary Volunteers

Our Culinary Volunteers nourish our families through their support of our meal program. They help supplement meal preparation, service, and cleanup when needed. They also get to connect with families during mealtime.

Special Projects Volunteers

Our Special Projects Volunteers keep the house running in behind-the-scenes tasks. Their work focuses on specific hands-on tasks, like our dedicated handymen, Second Helpings haulers, Pop Tab Transport, and basement organizers.

Frequently Asked Volunteer Questions

Will I be working with children?

While the kids are being well cared for at the hospital, we are caring for the parents and other family members who are here to support the child.

Although we will have some patients or siblings staying at the House, their condition frequently prevents them from interacting with the general public.

Individual volunteers are essential members of our regular service team, supporting families and staff through a variety of meaningful roles. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and commit to serving every other week for a minimum of six months, with shifts ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours.

To get started, volunteers complete an online application, pass a background check, and attend a one-time virtual orientation with Ronald McDonald House Staff.

Please note: Volunteers interested in serving in the Family Room spaces at Riley Children’s Health must also meet additional onboarding requirements in accordance with the hospital’s volunteer guidelines.

Individual volunteers on our regular service team will have 1-2 training shifts, depending on their service role, with a mentor volunteer before enlisting on a regular volunteer schedule. This training is conducted by both staff and veteran volunteers in a hands-on way.
